Are you still contemplating where to go and what to do for your 2017 vacation? Our first cruises of the year include a line-up of uniquely themed river cruises that is better than ever with the return of guest favorites like “Big Band,” “The 50s and 60s Remembered” and “Vineyards, Vintages and Varietals,” in addition to a few new ones that are sure to create a buzz. That’s right! We highly encourage you to kick off the New Year with a river cruise aboard one of our exquisite paddlewheelers, the American Queen or the American Empress. Each vessel offers a themed cruise early in the year to help you get a jump start on creating some brilliant memories for 2017!

The American Queen kicks off the year in early February with three popular Roundtrip New Orleans cruises. Our first cruises of the year are shorter in length for those who seek the thrilling history and cultural experience, but may not have the free time for a full nine days of travel. February 19 is five days in length and February 22 is six days in length, but both feature a fabulous theme, “The 50s and 60s Remembered.” For those looking for a brief encounter with the historic South and the classic sounds of the 50s and 60s, this is the perfect journey for you. February 26 begins our nine day voyages with a swinging good time and the “Big Band” theme that our guests come back for time and time again. Experience the best plantations, gardens, nostalgic music and cuisine, as each evening you will enjoy reminiscing to the legendary tunes you know so well and feel your worries drift away with the relaxing pace of life on the river in the lower region of the Mississippi.

The American Empress offers something a bit different and slightly more refined for those wishing to enjoy our first cruises of the year beginning in March. Our “Vineyards, Vintages and Varietals” themed cruises operating Roundtrip from Vancouver, Washington (Portland, Oregon) provide insight into the world of regional beverages in the Pacific Northwest. On March 19 and March 26, you can inspire your palate with extraordinary wines of the Washington and Oregon regions with onboard pairings and tastings from a multitude of participating local wineries. Then dive into the special brews of Astoria, Oregon with our complimentary Ale Trail shore excursion. Not to be excluded from this unique cruise experience is coffee. Portland Roasting Coffee, a long-standing member of the specialty coffee industry in the Pacific Northwest, joins us for special tasting and informational event held onboard the vessel. If you have ever dreamed of experiencing the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, these first cruises of the year offer just that and more.

Whether you are traveling the Columbia River through the great Pacific Northwest aboard the American Empress, or exploring life along the mighty Mississippi aboard the American Queen, the possibilities for an exceptional cruise experience are endless. Join us on these first cruises of the year, our highly-anticipated themed cruises which celebrate the history, music and cultures of America.
