Jackson - Chattanooga - 12-Day Journey
This 12-day journey is the only Memphis to Chattanooga cruise available in 2013. This three-river route will take you on the Upper Mississippi River, the Ohio River and the Tennessee River. Your Civil War experience begins with a complimentary hotel night in Jackson, Mississippi, for your included tour of Vicksburg National Military Park and landmarks in the city of Vicksburg. A luxury motorcoach will bring you to Memphis for an additional hotel stay to experience the home of the blues and birthplace of rock and roll. Memphis also has a rich, often overlooked, Civil War history, including a naval battle that virtually wiped out the Confederate fleet on the Mississippi River. Once you board the American Queen, your voyage will take you through Missouri, Kentucky and Alabama before arriving in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with richly historic stops all along the way to view Civil War battlefields, museums, National Historic Landmarks and more.

Day 1: Hotel Stay - Jackson, MS
Arrive in Jackson, Mississippi, at your leisure and enjoy a full night’s rest and complimentary full American breakfast the following morning before your adventure begins.
Day 2: Hotel Stay - Memphis, TN
Visit the site of the epic battle of Vicksburg. The battlefields and the stories behind them are among the most gripping and moving memorials you will ever experience. Knowledgeable experts, historians and story tellers will be on hand to illuminate your experience and the museum is not to be missed either. Lunch is included and you will depart for Memphis in the afternoon, arriving at your hotel in the early evening.
Day 3: Memphis, TN
Departure: 7:30 p.m.
Enjoy the sights and sounds of Memphis today. This afternoon, you will board the American Queen to begin your voyage.
Day 4: Ashport Landing, TN
Arrival: 8:00 a.m. — Departure: 1:00 p.m.
Day 5: River Cruising
Settle into a rocking chair and just let the scenery glide by. Or join in the fun of our numerous onboard activities. Your full day of leisurely steamboating on the river sets the tone for an unforgettable vacation.
Day 6: Paducah, KY
Arrival: 8:00 a.m. — Departure: 1:00 p.m.
Known as the city of art, rhythm and rivers, Paducah boasts a lively Lowertown Arts District, the renowned River Heritage Museum, a Save America’s Treasures project, and tours via foot, trolley or horse-drawn carriage reveal its charm. OR Elegant displays at the Museum of the American Quilter’s Society highlight the vigorous rebirth of quiltmaking. It’s just one of the colorful attractions in a lovely city of 19th century architecture, specialty shops and one-of-a-kind eateries.
Included Tour: Once you board your Hop On-Hop Off deluxe Steamcoach, a few stops may capture your attention. You’ll find the finest quilts made by today’s quilt artists at the National Quilt Museum. Then, visit some museums dedicated to preserving the heritage of the river, railroad and highlights of western Kentucky role in the War Between the States: the River Discovery Center, Paducah Railroad Museum and Paducah Civil War. Or visit the William Clark Market House Museum, which narrates the history of Paducah’s growth.
Day 7: Clifton, TN
Arrival: 1:00 p.m. — Departure: 7:00 p.m.
Enjoy the beautiful rolling hills and plains of Tennessee. Clifton, TN is yours to explore today.
Day 8: Savannah, TN
Arrival: 8:00 a.m. — Departure: 5:00 p.m.
The jumping off point for Shiloh National Military Park. The center traces the story of Corinth in the Civil War from secession through Reconstruction. It includes two state-of-the-art films on Shiloh and Corinth, plus interactive interpretive exhibits and stunning bronze work.
Included Tour: Experience Shiloh National Military Park. The Battle of Shiloh, fought in April 1862 during the American Civil War, is sometimes called Bloody Shiloh for its particularly devastating results for both sides. One Union veteran wrote, “No soldier who took part in the two day’s engagement at Shiloh ever spoiled for a fight again. We wanted a square, stand-up fight [and] got all we wanted of it.” The national cemetery within the park is the final resting place of 4,000 soldiers and their family members. The Shiloh Indian Mounds, a National Historic Landmark, are also located within the park boundaries.
Day 9: Decatur, AL
Arrival: 9:00 a.m. — Departure: 5:00 p.m.
Decatur highlights include the North Alabama Birding Trail, the Carnegie Visual Arts Center, the Princess Theatre Center for the Performing Arts, Riverwalk Marina, Wheeler Wildlife Refuge, two historic districts, and unique shopping and dining experiences.
Included Tour: Board your deluxe Hop On-Hop-Off Steamcoach, which will take you to Carnegie Visual Arts Center, which features visual art from every medium, and the Old State Bank Building, built over 170 years ago, which stands as a reminder of Decatur's rich history. The Blue and Gray Museum has a large collection of firearms, swords and other Civil War artifacts, and you can also visit the family-friendly St. John's Episcopal Church.
Day 10: River Cruising and Chattanooga, TN
Arrival: 4:00 p.m.
The Tennessee River Gorge is one of the most scenic stretches of river in America. Before Hales Bar Dam was built in 1913, it was also one of the most treacherous. Spend the day River Cruising with an early evening arrival in Chattanooga, TN.

This adventures provides the ultimate Civil War experience, complete with actor portrayals of historical figures, lecturers, balladeers, and guided shore excursions to battlefields designed to entertain and bring to life this pivotal chapter in our young nation's history.
Entertainment
Generals Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee will be portrayed by Barry Meadows and Al Stone, respectively. You might witness the Generals hold a press conference or give a rallying speech, or you may simply find them wandering the J.M. White Dining Room or lounging in the Gentleman’s Card Room for a bit of friendly conversation.
The sixteenth president, Abraham Lincoln himself, will even make an appearance through the incredible portrayal by George Buss. Buss’s stature and presentation is spot-on, according to many historians. He has portrayed President Lincoln in many arenas, including reenacting the seven Lincoln-Douglas debates at the Illinois Sesquicentennial Debate Celebration.
Bobby Horton is a master of Civil War Era music, and will be onboard to provide authentic renditions of period music, the perfect soundtrack to your Civil War journey.
